Highland: Low determined to complete set of honours

ANDY Low is dreaming of winning the one north trophy to elude him by lifting the Highland League Cup on 11 May.

The 28-year-old Inverurie Locos striker scored the second goal against Brora Rangers to set up the showcase occasion against Keith next month.

Low, who spent six successful years at Buckie before returning to Harlaw Park in 2011, Now the sales engineer is determined to finish the job. Low said: “This is the only trophy I haven’t won in the Highland League. I’ve won trophies with Inverurie in my first spell here and, of course, at Buckie.

“But the Highland League Cup has just never happened for me and I’d love to add that one to the collection.”

Neil Gauld fired Locos in front against the run of play after 38 minutes when a long ball forward caught the Brora defence flat. Steven Mackay slotted what looked like a Brora equaliser before the hour but was ruled off-side to the fury of the Sutherland visitors.

Low hit the clincher for the hosts after 65 minutes with a stunning free-kick from the edge of the box.

Keith edged out Nairn County in the other semi-final with Bruce Raffel’s early strike the winner.

In the league, Formartine marched on with a 5-1 thrashing of Clach at home. But Cove Rangers stayed three points clear at the top – albeit having played four more games – after smashing six past Fort William.

Wick Academy leapt back into third place with a 3-1 win at Fraserburgh. Buckie Thistle beat Lossiemouth 3-1, while Forres and Deveronvale shared four goals. Turriff won 2-0 at Strathspey and Huntly thrashed Rothes 5-0.
