Kris Commons: 'If I was a Hibs player, I would not be going near Celtic Park tonight'

Kris Commons has questioned whether Hibs players should travel to Parkhead for this evening’s Scottish Premiership match due to the Covid-19 risk from Celtic’s controversial trip to Dubai.

The former Celtic star, who also spent time on loan at Hibs, insisted the Edinburgh side would be within their rights to refuse to play after a Celtic player tested positive for coronavirus on their return from last week’s much-criticised warm-weather training camp on the Gulf coast.

Celtic’s entire first-team squad and management are in danger of missing the game with a decision on whether to place those who travelled into quarantine expected from the Scottish Government around lunchtime.

Writing in the Daily Mail, Commons said: "

If I was a Hibs player, I wouldn't want to be going anywhere near Celtic Park tonight.

"Jack Ross and his players would be well within their rights to refuse to play.

"If the game does go ahead, what this has done ultimately is just heap massive pressure on Celtic when the training camp was intended for them to recharge, refresh and press the reset button.

"If they've worked as hard as what we've been told and got their fitness levels up, they should be flying around Parkhead like Usain Bolt tonight.

"They've got no excuses now.”

He added: “The damage Celtic have caused is entirely self-inflicted – but it may yet have wider ramifications for the rest of the clubs and the rest of the season as a whole.

“Let’s be honest, Nicola Sturgeon rarely needs an second invitation to stick the boot into Scottish football. I fully expect her to give Celtic both barrells over this.”
