York Jambos brew a beer for Hearts’ 2012 Scottish Cup win

DOZENS of Edinburgh exiles will be raising a glass to Hearts’ 2012 Scottish Cup victory this month, thanks to a special new beer.

The York Hearts Supporters Club have brewed an ale called Marooned for their forthcoming Burns Supper.

The beer has a strength of 5.1% ABV and includes a New Zealand variety of hop called Dr Rudi – chosen by the club in honour of Rudi Skacel, who scored twice in the 5-1 win over Hibs at Hampden last May.

The group teamed up with Scarborough’s North Riding Brewery, run by Hearts fan Stuart Neilson. Most of the beer will be sold in cask but with a short bottle-run as well.

York Hearts chairman Ian Warner said: “We thought it would be a nice touch to have a special beer for the event – and it gave us a great opportunity to celebrate the cup win once more!”

Mr Neilson said: “As a lifelong Jambo it has been an honour and a pleasure to brew this beer. I’m sure it will be the perfect accompaniment to some haggis, neeps and tatties!”
