Alastair Johnston: Rangers battle hurting club

Former Rangers chairman Alastair Johnston has warned that a “cancer” is spreading through the club, and suggested that “self-serving” investors were at fault.

An EGM called in order to oust directors Malcolm Murray and Philip Cartmell have riled supporters and some board members, who are trying to pacify the growing tension in the club hierarchy by holding clear-the-air talks.

But Johnston remains concerned about the power struggle, saying: “There is a cancer spreading throughout the club and it’s not going to go away. My concern is that until self-serving investors are eliminated, then the club can’t go forward.

“With so many investors trying to play an active role in the guidance of Rangers Football Club, I don’t think that is a healthy situation.” (Daily Mail)

Nicky Law: Money not behind Rangers move

Motherwell midfielder Nicky Law has insisted that a possible move to Rangers is far from certain, and denid claims that money has motivated his decision to speak to Ally McCoist about a transfer.

The 24-year-old revealed Motherwell fans had abused him on Twitter when they learned of the Ibrox talks.

“I was being called all sorts,” said Law.

“But money has never been my motivation and never will be. I turned down a £100,000 signing-on fee at Crawley to join Motherwell.

“It’s ironic now that people are saying I’m only interested in the money.”

He added: “It’s been made to look like a move to Rangers is done and dusted. That’s far frm the case. I have two Championship managers to speak to next week.” (The Sun)

Victor Wanyama casts fresh doubt on Celtic stay

Victor Wanyama has hinted that he may be playing his football away from Parkhead next year.

Manchester United and Arsenal are thought to be frontrunners in the race for his signature, and the Kenyan defender has been cryptic about where his future may lie.

“I just leave the club and my agent to sort everything out. You never know. We will see,” said the 22-year-old.

Asked if this has been his best season, he replied: “I would say yes because we have won two in a row and also we have the (Scottish) Cup to play for.

“Being in the last 16 of the Champions League is a great thing for a player to achieve.

“It has been a great season and we have really enjoyed it.

“Celtic is a good club and my team-mates have been great. They have been strong and just a very good team.” (Metro)

Gary Locke may seek McCoist help as crisis engulfs Hearts

Hearts manager Gary Locke may have to seek out Rangers manager Ally McCoist for advice on how to cope with the fall-out of a cash crisis.

Reports have speculated that the Tynecastle club could be on the brink of disaster following the collapse of club owner Vladimir Romanov’s former bank, Ukio Bankas, in Lithuania. Bankruptcy practitioners could call in £15 million of the £25 million total debt owed by the Edinburgh outfit, forcing the club into administration.

Locke is trying to focus on football matters but admits he may call Ibrox manager McCoist who was praised for holding the Glasgow club together following their demise into liquidation. Locke said: “Yeah, I could be spending a bit of time with Ally in the summer. I might phone him for a bit of advice. Hopefully that is not the case.” (The Scotsman}
