Green: ‘I’ve been offered clubs to take us to England’

Charles Green has claimed that he has been offered two English clubs as surrogates for a bid to take Rangers into English football.

The Ibrox chairman claimed that two unidentified clubs have presented Green with a proposal that he takes over the clubs and their liabilities, in order to get Rangers into the English league system.

He said: “Two English clubs have come to me and said, ‘Buy us and close us down. Take us for free and take on the liabilities.’”

Green also claimed that only two of the 20 clubs he has sounded out over a move south have dismissed the idea outright, and suggested that a Rangers in the Premier League would be “bigger than West Brom, Everton or Aston Villa”. (Record/Mirror)

D-Day for Dumfermline

Dunfermline Athletic could cease to exist today as a 5pm deadline approaches for the payment of an outstanding £134,000 tax bill.

Chairman John Yorkston insists those at the club remain hopeful of a positive outcome, and will work for a positive outcome until time runs out. He said: “We are not giving up and we will hold more meetings on Monday.” (The Sun)

Meanwhile Pars goalkeeper Paul Gallagher has accused the SFA of allowing Dunfermline to get into their present state. The stopper said: “I just can’t believe it’s come to this. Should the governing bodies be helping this club survive? Well, they’ve not done a thing, have they?

“Nobody has helped us at all. It’s been left to us to try and turn this sorry sight around.” (Daily Mail)

Rangers have been carrying out top-secret scouting visits to Honduras.

A number of Rangers representatives reportedly watched the local derby between Motagua and Olimpia in the capital Tegucigalpa this weekend.

The Ibrox side are apparently keen on three Motagua midfielders - Brayan Figueroa, Junior Padilla and Omar Elvir.

The Honduran LNP side’s technical director Julio Gutierrez said: “I think it’s their fourth or fifth visit”. (The Sun)

Mackay: Old Firm move ‘would be dreadful’

Former Scotland cap Malky Mackay has said that Rangers and Celtic moving to English football would be “dreadful for Scottish football”.

The Cardiff manager said: “It would be good for them (Rangers and Celtic) as they would both have access to the TV money.

“But I think it would be dreadful for Scottish football. I am passionate about my country and the growth of football there and I don’t think it would be good for Scotland at all.” (Mirror)
