Rangers administration: Club in no place to seek guarantees says Ally McCoist

ALLY McCoist has again lent his support to the Blue Knights while talking about a “massive 48 hours” for the beleaguered club.

The Rangers manager spoke enthusiastically about Paul Murray while at the same time appearing to contradict the front-runner in the bidding process, Bill Miller, when saying that Rangers are not in a position to be seeking commitments from the SFA and the SPL. Miller has made compliance on the part of the football authorities a pre-condition of his bid.

“I have looked at it but I don’t know enough about the legalities of it and how we’ll deal with the SFA and SPL,” said McCoist. “I certainly don’t think we’re in a position to ask anyone for guarantees. All we would hope for is fairness. I wouldn’t say leniency, just fairness and realism from the powers-that-be, because we are in the wrong and we have to accept that. I’m aware we’re not in a position to seek guarantees.”

That is precisely what Miller is seeking, though. “The next 48 hours are absolutely vital,” said McCoist. “I’ll be speaking to Duff & Phelps for an update. I spoke to Paul [Murray) again on Friday night. I spoke to Brian Kennedy earlier on Friday and when you have guys like that who, it’s safe to say, have the club’s best interests at heart – and I’m guaranteeing that – then we have got a chance.”

McCoist described his players as a “remarkable bunch” in the wake of their fourth victory on the spin. He said: “One of the big pluses to come out of this in a bizarre way is a real unity in terms of the players, the staff and the support. We need a wee boost right now, and we got it today.”
