Lithuania move for ex-Hearts player Calum Elliot

CALUM ELLIOT will fly out to Lithuania tomorrow to sign for Zalgiris Vilnius on a two-year deal. The 24-year-old is a free agent after leaving Hearts at the start of the month.

He has been plagued by injuries for the past year so believes a change of scenery will give him the best chance of getting back to his best. He said: “Everything has been agreed. I’m delighted and it’s obviously a big move for me. The longer you go without a club the more you worry.

“You could say it’s a step into the unknown so there’s an element of trepidation. But I phoned Marius Zaliukas, who I’m friendly with from my time at Hearts. He says Vilnius is an ideal place to live in, so it helped put my mind at rest a bit.

“Marius also says they are passionate about their football which will be what I was used to. I can’t wait to try a different way of life and it’s not too far from Scotland if I ever feel like coming home.”
