Kevin Kyle’s career is ‘maybe’ finished

KEVIN Kyle may have to retire because of injury problems, Hearts manager Paulo Sergio admitted yesterday.

The 30-year-old striker has not played since the fourth round of the Scottish Cup last January, and has suffered several setbacks in his attempts to recover from a chronic hip injury. Kyle admitted last autumn that he had fears for his career, and Sergio explained yesterday that medical opinion was divided over what to do next.

“I don’t know what is the point [we have reached] right now,” the Hearts manager said. “We have different opinions. One says he should get more surgery, then comes another saying he shouldn’t. It’s a big problem with his hip.”

Asked if he feared Kyle’s career may be over, he replied: “Maybe.”

Kyle, who signed a two-year contract in the summer of 2010, was a key player under previous manager Jim Jefferies.
