The Nigeria international was recovering from a hamstring injury when he returned to first team duties on Saturday. However, the 25-year-old claimed afterwards that he was happy to cover in defence in the absence of captain Alim Ozturk and Blazej Augustyn.

Following the important away victory, the left-back told africanfootball.com: “I wasn’t fully fit to play the game, but knowing how important the game is to the team’s ambition to climb up the table made me to play and I wasn’t disappointed with the team’s performance. It was a massive victory, to God be the glory.”

Hearts now sit six points behind leaders Celtic in second place on 26 points and one point ahead of third placed Aberdeen.

Oshaniwa acknowledged his need to return to recuperation, adding: “But for sure I need to stay out for some time. I will wait for the medics’ advice after taking like two days’ rest”.
