Hearts’ Andy Webster winning race to face Killie

HEARTS are hopeful that central defender and stand-in skipper Andy Webster will be fit for the Jambos’ trip to face Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Saturday.

Webster, who has donned the armband in the absence of captain and fellow central defender Marius Zaliukas, missed the recent 4-2 defeat of Ross County. Teenage defender Brad McKay deputised for Webster and, although the 18-year-old was part of a team that fought back from 2-1 down to get the win, manager Gary Locke will be keen to get one of his most experienced and valuable players back in the side for this weekend.

Hearts have suffered numerous injuries to defenders this season, with Jamie Hamill, Danny Grainger, Fraser Mullen, Dylan McGowan, Webster and Zaliukas all picking up knocks at certain parts of the season. It is an area Locke wants to find consistency in as the Jambos look to finish the season with a flourish.

“Andy had a thigh strain, which ruled him out,” 
Locke explained to the Evening News. “It kind of seems to be the way things are going for us. We haven’t got a lot of 
experienced players and the ones we have got seem to be picking up injuries.

“We’re in a wee break now, so I’m hoping that the likes of Andy and maybe one or two others will be back in contention for the next game.”
