FORMER Hearts winger Andrew Driver scored again for Houston Dynamo in the MLS in a 4-0 win over DC United. Team-mate Will Bruin, who added a brace, has scored nine times in nine career appearances against United.

Thierry Henry produced a spectacular bicycle kick in the 88th minute to score his second goal of the game and give New York a 2-1 win over Montreal, keeping a share of the lead with Houston in the MLS Eastern Conference.

Hughes and Barron leave Darlington

Hartlepool manager John Hughes and his reserve team coach Micky Barron have had their contracts terminated. Former Hibs, Falkirk and Livingston manager Hughes, 48, had been in charge for just short of six months after being appointed as Neale Cooper’s successor. A club statement read: “The club would like to thank John for all his efforts to try to secure League One status since he joined the club in November 2012. We wish him all the very best for the future.”

Suarez scot-free after alleged punch

Uruguay forward Luis Suarez has escaped a sanction for allegedly punching an opponent during the World Cup qualifier against Chile, the country’s football federation (AUF) said in a statement. Fifa had opened an investigation after Argentine referee Nestor Pitana missed the incident which happened as Suarez tussled with Gonzalo Jara as they lined up for a corner during Chile’s 2-0 win.

Plymouth re–sign death drive ’keeper

A GOALKEEPER jailed for killing two young boys in a car crash while drink-driving has rejoined the club he was playing for at the time of the accident. Luke McCormick, 29, has signed a one-year deal with Plymouth. He was jailed for seven years and four months in October 2008 for killing Arron Peak, 10, and his brother Ben, 8, in a crash on the M6 in Staffordshire as he returned from a team-mate’s wedding while twice the drink-driving limit.

Maher lights up AZ cup final triumph

A DAZZLING solo goal by Adam Maher inspired AZ Alkmaar to a 2-1 win over PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Cup final last night. Maher dribbled past three PSV players before putting his team in front after 12 minutes. Two minutes later USA international Jozy Altidore scored the second Alkmaar goal. PSV pulled one back 14 minutes before the break when Wilfred Bouma headed a cross back to the near post and teenager Juergen Locadia scored from close range.
