Colin Cameron: Emotions to the fore on very special day

THAT was actually quite emotional. I had a wee moment to myself as I soaked it all up because it’s different when you are sitting in the stands.

When I won the Scottish Cup with Hearts, it was a completely different experience, because you are focusing on the game, so you don’t really get a true impression of really what it means to the fans. It was only when I was amongst them for this one that it hit home and it brought back some very special memories. I just had a feeling it was going to be Hearts’ day. I was still surprised how easy it was for them.

I think the least you expect in a derby, never mind a derby that meant as much as this one, is 100 per cent and I don’t think the Hibs players gave that, while every Hearts player was professional and did his job. The key man, as always, was Ian Black. He was dominant from start to finish and although Hibs tried to match up to Hearts at the beginning, they just couldn’t live with him in the middle of the park. And even if they could get to grips with Blackie, the problem then is that they would have had to find a way of stopping Skacel.

Although I was supporting Hearts, I had said before the game that I would have loved to be out there for Hibs – after all this was their chance to take their place in history as the first team to win the cup for more than 100 years. That’s something you have to go out and give everything for but not enough of the Hibs players did. In midfield, they couldn’t get enough of the ball, with Isaiah Osbourne very disappointing.

I don’t think Andy Webster even broke sweat and in a Scottish Cup final that is terrible.

Hearts were the better team and they wanted it more. They deserved to win and they deserved to win by as many as they did. I’m just happy for them.
