How to watch Celtic v LASK
Celtic begin their bid to reach the UEFA Champions League when they host Austrian side LASK in the play-off round first leg.
Martin O’Neill’s men will hope to take a positive result into the second leg in Linz next week as they look to make up for the failures of 12 months ago by reaching the 36-team league phase of Europe's premier club competition.
Celtic fell at the same hurdle last year, losing to Kazakhstan minnows Kairat Almaty on penalties after drawing both legs 0-0 in a humiliating defeat that sparked a campaign of fan protests against the board of directors.
A lack of transfer activity was blamed, but Celtic go into this season’s Champions League play-off with four new faces after £26million was spent on the signings of Camilo Duran, Kasper Hogh, Mika Baur and Haissem Hassan. The Hoops remain in profit, however, following the sales of Daizen Maeda to Ipswich for £10m and Arne Engels to West Ham for £22m, the latter leaving the Parkhead club on the eve of the tie.
The match between the reigning Scottish and Austrian champions is their first ever competitive meeting. While Celtic clinched their fifth successive Premiership title last season, LASK ended a 61-year wait to win the Austrian Bundesliga for only the second time.
Celtic have started the new domestic season in good form, winning both their opening league matches, 1-0 against Dundee and 5-1 against Kilmarnock, while Dundee United were also beaten 4-0 in the Premier Sprots Cup on Sunday. LASK have started the Austrian season in similar vein with three straight league victories and a cup win with 16 goals scored and only one conceded.
