The 19-year-old Sheffield Wednesday midfielder is believed to have been in discussions with the Parkhead club across recent weeks and has inked terms on a move that will see him move north in the summer.

Lennon’s involvement in the pursuit of transfer targets despite uncertainty over his position is presented by the 49-year-old as standard procedure owing to his present position.

Asked if it suggested he would remain in charge for next season, Lennon said: “I haven’t said that I wouldn’t be. I’ve not yet spoken to [incoming Celtic chief executive Dominic McKay], but I speak to Peter [Lawwell, club chief executive until July] every day. I speak to Dermot [Desmond, Celtic’s major shareholder], I speak to Nick Hammond [Celtic head of recruitment]. We’ve completed a deal for Liam Shaw, he’s signed a pre-contract. So, that’s done and we’re looking ahead. Of course, I’m involved in the planning for the next transfer window.”

Shaw, a boyhood supporter of Wednesday and a product of the club’s academy he joined at eight, made the breakthrough at the Hillsborough club last summer. Considered one of the most promising players to graduate through the ranks at Wednesday in recent times, his made his senior debut in July, towards the delayed end of last season. The 6ft 2in performer has made 14 appearances this season, 11 of these as a starter. Although mainly utilised in the centre of the pitch, he has had a smattering of outings at centre-back.
