Patryk Klimala has sealed a deal with New York Red Bulls – and Celtic are believed to have recouped their £3.5m outlay on the Polish striker.

Klimala signed for Neil Lennon’s side in January last year in a deal worth over £3m with Celtic seeing off interest from FC Copenhagen to land the 22-year-old from Jagiellona Bialystok – but he has hit just three goals in 28 appearances.

Most of the Polish forward’s appearances have come from the bench and he started just five games across his entire Parkhead career.

He’ll now move to the MLS where he’ll feature alongside former Celtic youth Cameron Harper.

Celtic confirmed the deal on Thursday afternoon and said: “Everyone at Celtic FC thanks Patryk Klimala for his contribution to the club and wishes him every success in the future.”

Klimala found himself behind Albian Ajeti in the pecking order at Parkhead and couldn’t make an impact when Odsonne Edouard was out of the team late last year.
