In the evening session at The Emirates Arena, the Scots pair were beaten 8-21 16-21 by the No.3 seeds from Singapore, Danny Chrisnanta and Chayut Triyachart.

Van Rietvelde has been struggling throughout the Games with an ankle injury but bravely battled on.

“I injured it in training before we even moved into the Athletes’ Village,” he said. “But I wasn’t going to miss out on the chance of playing in a home Games.”

Scotland has two chances of a medal - Blair and Bankier and Kirsty Gilmour in the women’s singles.

The semi-finals take place on Saturday morning with the bronze medal play-offs in the evening.
