Chisholm fires Vale back into title contention

HIGHLAND: Deveronvale skipper Mark Chisholm believes his side are back in the title hunt after he hit the winner in a 2-1 victory over Wick.

Now five points off leaders Keith with two games in hand, Deveronvale's transformation has been startling since an extremely sluggish start.

Chisholm said: "The young lads in our team don't know when they are beaten. We could go top by winning our games in hand and we are delighted to be in this position given the start we made."

Shane Sutherland had fired Wick into a surprise lead on the stroke of half-time. But Scott Fraser levelled after the hour and Chisholm's winner kept up the pressure on leaders Keith, who maintained a one-point lead above Buckie after a 6-3 win at Strathspey - a game in which Craig McGovern scored four times.

Buckie stayed second with a 2-1 win at Turriff, while Cove's 7-0 thrashing of Clach kept their faint hopes alive. Late goals from Ryan Green and Garry Tweedie helped Forres to a 3-1 home win over Inverurie Locos.

A last-minute Scott McKain goal gave Brora full points in a 2-1 win at Fort William, while Lossiemouth and Fraserburgh drew 0-0.

In the Fosters Highland League Cup, Nairn shocked hosts Formartine 4-0.
