Caley in line for mystery cash boost

INVERNESS Caley Thistle are on the verge of landing a six-figure cash windfall from mystery investors. The group, believed to be based abroad, is understood to be formed of expats from the Highland capital.

The SPL club's chairman George Fraser yesterday confirmed the offer was being considered but refused to give further details.

The club's biggest shareholder, past chairman David Sutherland, had recently opened the door to fresh investment.

Fraser said: "The board is encouraged by the fact that, even in this challenging financial climate, there are people willing to invest in and support the club. There are a number of issues which still require to be agreed by both parties but, hopefully, these can be concluded in the next ten to 14 days.

"Operating an SPL club has never been so financially demanding. The proposed investment would be of great value in assisting Caley Thistle going forward. The (offer] was stimulated by, and is connected to, the previous statement by former chairman David Sutherland offering to transfer his majority shareholding to potential new investors."
