AVIEMORE is the hottest spot in the UK today - beating even sunny Barcelona.

At 2pm this afternoon the temperature was measured at 21 degrees celsius in Aviemore compared to 19 degrees in the capital of Spain’s Catalonia region.

This unusual weather pattern is partly the result of an unseasonably sunny September day in Scotland, making Aviemore the hottest spot in the UK and matching temperatures in Rome and Nice.

The nearby Highland villages of Kinlochewe, Tyndrum and Drumnadrochit were also warmer than Barcelona at that time with a recorded temperature of 20 degrees.
