Veterans' charity gives ex-soldier 'second chance'

A FORMER serviceman has told how a veterans' charity gave him a "second chance in life".

Ex-Royal Highland Fusilier James Miller, 30, suffered a leg injury while on tour in Germany, signalling the end of his Army career.

After volunteering at the Erskine charity, which cares for veterans, he was offered a part-time job with the organisation - something he said was a "huge morale-booster".

Speaking at the opening of Erskine's new garden centre and cafe in Bishopton, Renfrewshire, Mr Miller said: "If it had not been for all the help and support I received from Erskine, I wouldn't like to think of the situation I would have been in now.

"It's like getting a second chance, not only in employment but in life."

Scots chef Nick Nairn teamed up with Erskine to create the garden centre's Vanishing Willows Cafe.

All the proceeds, which was launched by Glasgow Lord Provost Bob Winter, will to the care for and support of veterans.
