Highland crash victim was ‘fantastic role model’

A GLOWING tribute has been paid to a teenager killed in a horror road smash in the Highlands last week, wih Kevin MacIver’s former head describing the ex-house captain as a “fantastic role model”.

A special day was held at Ivergordon Academy for the 19-year-old, involving pupils, staff and his family.

Alison Drew, head teacher of Invergordon Academy, said: “Kevin left Invergordon Academy in 2012 to take up an apprenticeship with Isleburn Engineering.

“He loved his new job and had great plans around his career.”

She added: “Kevin contributed a huge amount to the life of the school. He was a House Captain and a Community Sports Leader.

“He was someone who would volunteer to help others and a fantastic role model for younger pupils.

“Kevin loved sport and was a real five-aside football fan. He was a young man who helped and encouraged others and had a real sense of community. Kevin was well regarded and well-liked by pupils and staff.”

On Friday, the pupils and staff who knew Kevin and his family spent time remembering his many qualities.

Ms Drew added: “Invergordon Academy is a close knit community and we have been supportive of each other at this difficult time.”

Mr MacIver, from Invergordon, was the driver of a Vauxhall Corsa which was in collision with an articulated goods vehicle.

The crash happened on the B9175 Arabella to Nigg Road, at Bayfield, at about 18:15 on Thursday.

The road was closed for more than seven hours. Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
