Highland car crash kills student

A MALE student in his 20s was killed in a horror car crash on a remote Highland tourist road.

The victim is believed to have been holidaying on Skye with three other students and were returning to the Central Belt when the tragedy happened on Saturday evening.

He was the front seat passenger in the Nissan Micra which left the A87 Kyle of Lochalsh to Invergarry road, just west of Invergarry.

The emergency services were called to the scene, just five miles south of the Bunloyne junction at around 5.37pm.

Firefighters discovered the front seat passenger had already died of his injuries.

A female back seat passenger had to be cut from the wreckage and was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, where she is still being treated for serious head injuries.

Two other men in the car were taken to Belford Hospital in Fort William by road ambulance with minor injuries.

The road was closed with local diversions for six-and-a-half hours while enquiries were carried out by officers from the Divisional Road Policing Unit.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision and who has not been spoken to by police is asked to contact them on 101.

A police spokesman said they were struggling to inform all next of kin and that no further details would be released until then.

A biker was killed to the to remote spot close to Bun Loyne last year.

Ian Hutchinson (51), from Tuxford, Nottinghamshire, died in the one-vehicle incident, involving a blue Suzuki motorcycle.
