Sport centre axe slammed

A COUNCILLOR has lodged a motion criticising the decision to close a city sport centre.

Green councillor Steve Burgess is angry that Edinburgh Leisure's decision to close the Crags Sports Centre comes only seven years after it opened, following "many years of campaigning and fundraising by local people".

In his motion, Cllr Burgess says that the centre is well-used and is beside one of the most deprived areas of the city.

He calls on council officials to provide an immediate report on the reasons for the centre being closed, the impact on the local community and how the council can help to ensure that the centre remains open.
