World boxing champion Josh Taylor desperate for Edinburgh Castle match

Scottish boxing history-maker Josh Taylor has laid bare his desire to fight at Edinburgh Castle.

The Prestonpans boxer, who became the country’s first double world champion in 2019, is desperate to entertain a home crowd in the heart of the Capital and has called on those behind the scenes to grant his wish.

Responding to the news that organisers of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo are aiming to stage a full-capacity event in August on the castle’s esplanade – if social distancing measures are lifted this summer – Taylor suggested it could provide the perfect setting as he bids to create history once more.

The 30-year-old tweeted: “Hey @Edinburghcastle, what about a HUGE once in a lifetime event of a world unification boxing match and witness one of your sons become Scotland’s first ever 4 belt undisputed champion of the world?”

Hibs fan Taylor first outlined his dream of boxing for a home crowd at either Easter Road or Edinburgh Castle two years ago.
