Watch: Stereophonics star praises man walking UK coastline who is currently in the north of Scotland

Stereophonics bass player Richard Jones has sent a video message commending a man who is currently walking the coastline of the UK.

Chris Lewis, who is raising money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity, set off from Swansea, Wales, in August 2017.

Still going strong with an army of support from people he’s met on the way and through social media, Chris, who served with the 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment, has currently made it to Buckie on the Moray Firth coastline.

Just days after his arrival in the Scottish town on Tuesday, the avid walker received a message from Richard who had recently spotted a video of Chris performing a cover of the band’s song ‘Maybe Tomorrow’ on Facebook.

But after looking at Chris’s Facebook page, the Sterephonics star saw the selfless mission Chris was on in aid of the SSFA and sent a heartwarming video to the adventurer, commending him on his music and efforts towards raising money for ‘a great charity.’

In his message he said: “I just wanted to say hello just heard your cover of Maybe Tomorrow which I thought was brilliant so well done with that.

"I also took a look at your Facebook page and that’s amazing you’re walking round the coastline of the UK, you must have gone through about five pairs of shoes already.

"You take it easy, and good luck with raising all the money, and what a great charity you are doing it for.”

Chris, who is planning to reach the Aberdeen area of Scotland this Christmas to help the homeless, said Richard’s message has been his ‘favourite’ from the celebrities who have commented on his walk so far.

He said: “Of all the amazing messages I've had from celebrities across the world this has to be my favourite! Richard Jones from my favourite band Stereophonics got in touch with this lovely video.

“Mate thanks so much for your words of support and time taken to do this! I hope we meet one day after I cross the finish line.

“More folks putting out the word for #SSAFA from one of the world’s biggest bands, Stereophonics. Thank you.”

He has currently raised more than £170,000.

When the UK was forced into lockdown after the virus hit in March, Chris was sleeping in a tent on mainland Shetland.

But due to the coronavirus restrictions at the time, the pair were taken to Hildasay, a 108-hectare island off the west coast of the Shetland mainland, by boat, where they had to self-isolate until the rules were eased.

They had been given permission to live in the one house on Hildasay, a former shepherd's hut without running water, heating or electricity.

Chris at the time said he has “mainly been in isolation for the past two years” due to the nature of the places he’s been venturing to on his charity walk.

He was able to continue his mission once Scotland eased out of lockdown a few months later.
