Steve Bannon '˜removed from White House role' by President Trump

Controversial adviser Steve Bannon has been '˜removed' from his role as Chief Strategist to President Donald Trump, according to multiple media outlets in the United States.

Bannon, whose brand of economic nationalism and ‘America-First’ protectionism, was seen by many as the intellectual basis for President Trump’s unlikely rise to the Oval Office.

Bannon has repeatedly clashed with other senior figures in the Trump White House, and has done little to change his brash style and outsider instincts, leading to disagreements with members of Trump’s family, believed to be he the most influential voices in the President’s ear.

A former investment banker, Bannon was one of the founding partners, and later Chief Executive of, controversial far-right website Breitbart News, which was occasionally ran from his home.

Breitbart was seen as influential in allying Trump with broader, more Conservative anti-establishment Republican elements such as the Tea Party movement, who initially viewed Trump, an outsider with historically Liberal social views, with suspicion.

Bannon has view friends in the White House, and his departure while likely be cheered by moderates and conservatives alike, who attributed his malign influence to Trump’s equivocal response to racially charged violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.

However, the departure of yet another key aide shows just how fractious the Trump White House can be, with the President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner virtually the only constant staff presence since the President’s inauguration.

Trump has already lost National Security adviser Michael Flynn, Chief of Staff Reince Preibus, Press Secretary Sean Spicer, and Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, who resigned after just ten days.

Some of President Trump’s aides have urged him to sack Bannon, who was influential in the response to the Charlottesville clashes.

News that Trump had finally removed Bannon was first broken on conservative news aggregator the Drudge Report, which is known to have good sources around the President.
