SSPCA unveil 11 animals waiting longest for new owner
From cats to cockerels, Chinese turtles to dogs, here are the pets being looked after a little longer than most at Scottish SPCA centres across Scotland.
Elizabeth and Victoria
Type: Rex rabbit
Wait: 132 days
These bunnies were dropped off at the charity’s Aberdeenshire centre at Drumoak more than four months ago.

Hide AdThe ladies posses “strong personalities and their own charms” with Victoria described as the more outgoing of the two. Elizabeth, meanwhile, is nervous around strangers.
A spokeswoman said: “These girls would love to find an owner who will appreciate them for their own little ways and enjoy watching their mischievous antics every day.”
Trixie
Type: Domestic short hair cat
Wait: 182 days
Trixie is an older lady aged between 12 and 14 years and has been at the Drumoak centre for almost six months.
She is looking for an understanding owner who can give her a calm and loving retirement home.
Trixie has hyperthyroidism and is on lifelong medication but loves human company.
She doesn’t, however, enjoy the company of other cats
A spokeswoman said: “She enjoys her home comforts so would be suited to an indoor home, though access to a secure garden wouldn’t be passed up.”
Type: Lurcher dog
Wait: 267 days
Sadly, very little interest has been shown in Brian who has been at the charity’s Caithness centre for nearly nine months.
Little is known about Brian’s background but staff said this “gorgeous young boy” adores human company and play time.

“We are unsure how he would be living with other canine company but he doesn’t seem to bother at all with the other dogs in our care.”
Brian is not so keen on small animals, cats and livestock and due to his size, he would best suit a home without very young children,
Nero
Species: Cockerel
Wait: 367 days
Nero was one of a group of cockerels cruelly dumped in a fishery.
He is looking for a home where he can live with other poultry and enjoy life scratching about and dust bathing.
A spokeswoman said: “Nero will require a safe, secure area to roost in at night and an area to explore during the day, which will need to be fox proof.”
He is currently in residence at the SSPCA’s Balerno centre.
Kush
Type: Staffordshire Bull Terrier dog
Wait: 380 days
Kush lives at the Balerno centre and is described as a very affectionate boy who loves attention and a good, long walk.
He is known to get a bit excited in new situations but has been getting extra training. Kush needs a good home with an owner who is experienced in handling energetic dogs.

Hide AdA spokesman for the charity said: “Kush will make a very loyal and loving companion to that special someone who will give him a chance.”
Doug and Eddie
Type: Lurcher dogs
Wait: Over 400 days
These boys are looking for an active owner who will give them plenty of exercise with long walks and runs and will shower them with cuddles and kisses.
Doug loves a good, cosy bed and can often be found curled up underneath a duvet while Eddie loves nothing more than a good game of tug of war.
They are looking for an adult only home with an owner who is around most of the day to start with to help settle them into their new routine.
Unfortunately they do like to chase so a home without small animals is a must, a spokeswoman said.
Rambo
Species: Cornsnake
Wait: 519 days
Rambo has a good temperament and has the potential to become a great pet.
He currently live at the charity’s Dundee centre and his new owner will need to frequently handle him to keep him hand tame.
A spokeswoman said: “As he is still very young, his new owner will have to be willing to change his accommodation to match the size of him as he grows.”
Dandy
Type: Cornsnake
Wait: 600 days

Hide AdDandy is always on the move, is very inquisitive and seems happy to be handled.
With the odd exception, corn snakes are calm, docile, placid snakes that are hardy and thrive very well in captivity, according to the SSPCA.
“Dandy is looking for a home with an owner who has had previous experience with corn snakes,” a spokeswoman said.
Gonzo
Type:: Chinese soft shelled turtle
Wait: 885 days
Gonzo has made her feelings perfectly known to SSPCA staff since she arrived more than two-and-a-half years ago.
“She has a somewhat objectionable personality and will need to be housed on her own. She has made it clear that company, human or otherwise, is not for her,” a spokeswoman said.
She added that soft shelled turtles have some very specific requirements so an owner with some experience with this type of species is desired.
The spokeswoman added: “For someone with the experience and resources to give Gonzo a proper and caring home, she should be a very rewarding and interesting pet.”
