But the entire thing had been staged, so the Edinburgh rider could present 18-year-old Bo’ness Academy student Abbie McCallum with a top award.
Sir Chris wore a hidden camera before boarding the bus to present the Sky Sports Living for Sport Student of the Year award for Scotland.
He then took Abbie on the rest of her journey by rickshaw.
And the entire thing was broadcast live on Sky Sports this morning.
Sky Academy Ambassador Sir Chris said, “Abbie’s passion and dedication to her role as project leader in Bo’ness Academy’s Sky Sports Living for Sport project is absolutely fantastic. Her ability to inspire and lead through Sky Sports Living for Sport has positively change the lives of many of her peers both in and out of the classroom. Bo’ness Academy should be very proud to have a student of Abbie’s calibre.”
Bo’ness Academy teacher Jonathan MacWhirter said, “In all my years of teaching I have never met a pupil who is as dedicated and passionate as Abbie. Being involved in Sky Sports Living for Sport has changed Abbie’s life and given her so many opportunities she wouldn’t have had before. Abbie grabbed the Sky Sports Living for Sport project with both hands and made a positive impact to hundreds of pupils’ lives in Bo’ness. If ever there was a story which highlights the power of sport it is this one.”
