Sea shanty TikTok sensation Nathan Evans to perform online gig supporting the fight against child poverty in Scotland
The 26-year-old was a postman until just two weeks ago, when TikTok videos of him performing sea shanties in his bedroom went viral, attracting over 20 million views and earning him upwards of 760,000 followers.
He was quickly signed up by major label Polydor, and his version of 19th century whaling song ‘Wellerman’ went to number one in The Official Big Top 40 last Sunday after receiving glowing endorsements from stars including Lorraine Kelly and BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mills.
His performance tomorrow at the picturesque Black Loch, near his hometown, will be streamed to raise money to support the one in four children currently living in poverty in Scotland.
Mr Evans said: "It’s been a mental few weeks and there has been so much going on but when STV came and asked me to do a special gig for the STV Children’s Appeal, there was no way I could pass it up.
“Lorraine Kelly has been an amazing support and it’s also a really important cause.
"I’m looking forward to seeing everybody online on Friday night for a wee tune to help raise some money.”
Viewers can stream it from 5pm on the STV Children Appeal’s Facebook page.
