Actor and comedian John Sessions dies aged 67

Actor and comedian John Sessions has died at the age of 67.

The star, who was born in Largs, Ayrshire, enjoyed a career across TV, film and the stage.

He was known for regular appearances on shows like Whose Line Is It Anyway? and his work on Spitting Image.

His agent Alex Irwin said in a statement: "It is with great sadness we can confirm that on Monday, the actor John Sessions died at his home in south London.

"He will be hugely missed."

Sessions also appeared on QI and Have I Got News for You.

The Scotland-born actor's big-screen credits included The Good Shepherd, The Merchant of Venice and The Bounty.

He was also known for his surreal performances on his one-man TV shows.

Recent TV drama credits included Victoria, The Loch and Mr Selfridge.

The official QI Twitter account paid tribute, saying: "His incredible wit and encyclopaedic knowledge played a huge part in the show's history and everyone at QI is deeply saddened to learn of his passing."

Hearing the news, Laurence Fox who starred alongside Sessions in Victoria said: “Dear God, no! He phoned me the other day to check in and tell me that he’s there if I ever need him. What an absolute diamond of a man. Always there for you. Absolutely hilarious. Always kind, always gentle. What a lovely friend. Goodnight dear John.”

Charlie Condou also paid his respects on Twitter, writing: “Unbelievably sad news about John Sessions. He was a wonderful friend and mentor to me when I was starting my career. RIP XXX”

Robert Webb, author and Peep Show actor, tweeted: “Bobby Ball and now John Sessions! Two very different performers who both absolutely inspired and delighted me at different times. Lovely, funny men.”

Journalist and broadcaster Mariella Frostrup posted: “So sad to hear of the death of #johnsessions A great actor and an interesting man who I always enjoyed encountering.”
