Scarlett Johannson joins the Sauchiehall Street set

IT’S known more for playing host to local indie bands than Holywood A-listers, but Glasgow bar Nice N Sleazy’s welcomed one of the top names in film when Scarlett Johannson popped in for a drink last night.

Johannson, who has been filming her latest movie Under The Skin in at various locations in Scotland, dropped into the Sauchiehall Street bar and spent around two hours drinking with locals.

The 26-year-old, who rose to fame through films like Lost in Translation and Iron Man 2, has reportedly been spending some time exploring the city’s nightlife during breaks from filming.

A source at the bar told scotsman.com: “She has been at all of the pubs and shops in the area over the last few weeks.

“She was in for a couple of hours and had a few drinks last night.”

On Twitter this morning, some of those who were in the bar last night expressed their shock at meeting Johansson.

One tweeted: “Actually met Scarlett Johansson last night and bought her a drink.”

The bar is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary with a series of gigs throughout November.

Johansson is one of a number of Holywood celebrities who have been in Scotland over the past few months after Brad Pitt sparked a frenzy when he visited Glasgow to film World War Z – turning parts of the city centre into a replica of downtown Philadelphia.

Halle Berry was also in Scotland for the filming of Cloud Atlas in September.

Based on a novel of the same name by Dutch-born author Michel Faber, Under the Skin’s plot follows Johansson’s character – alien seductress Isserley – as she scours the planet’s male hitchhikers.

Faber, who lives near Inverness, set his novel in Ross-shire in the Highlands, where Johansson’s character prowls the A9 road every morning looking for prey. The main road through Glen Coe was shut briefly last week to allow for filming in the area.

Other less spectacular locations have included a petrol station in Wishaw.
