Sarah Cairncross: Why I HATE Big Brother

I CAN'T stand Big Brother. It's boring. The people who are on it have absolutely nothing to say about anything.

Watching people sleep in a bedroom has absolutely no interest for me.

People go on the show for a few weeks - come out - do a media deal and they are still nobodies.

I really miss good BBC period drama. I miss quality programming, things that are well put together with great actors and fantastic sets. There is no escapism in reality television - it just drags you back into dullness and mediocrity.

I'm appalled by the people on these shows who are just desperate for a last grab of the stick and can think of nothing else to do with their lives.

People who go on Big Brother never seen to have read anything or to know anything.

Even people who have might something to say, like George Galloway, are dumbed down to the same mundane level, made to do utterly facile tasks, in his case pretending to be a cat and licking someone.

I'll be celebrating the end of Big Brother. It's not interesting, it's not entertaining, it's not educational - it's a complete waste of time.
