Rumours have been rife for months the Scottish actor will be cast as the iconic spy when Daniel Craig steps down after the release of No Time to Die later this year.
And now, Outlander star Heughan has dropped his biggest hint yet that he might be about to follow in the late Sir Sean Connery’s footsteps.

Heughan, 40, retweeted the post, adding a winking emoji.
The Balmaclellan-born actor revealed recently he has actually tried out for the part before.
Speaking to the Radio Times, Heughan recalled auditioning for the part in October 2005.
“I met [producer] Barbara Broccoli and [Casino Royale director] Martin Campbell,” he said.


“I did a scene and they had the gun from The Man with the Golden Gun on the table and I remember thinking, ‘Wow, this is incredible’.
“It was surreal,” he added. “He’s a character we’ve all grown up with.”
In another recent interview, to promote latest film SAS: Red Notice, in which he plays special forces operator Tom Buckingham, Heughan admitted he’d jump at the chance to play Bond.
Speaking to the Press Association, he said: “I don’t know if there is a conversation being had, apart from in the media.
