RuPaul’s Drag Race UK 2021: Two Scots unveiled in the lineup of latest series
The hit reality TV show sees a group of some of the UK’s most skilled drag queens pitted against each other in a series of challenges designed to test their entertainment prowess.
The first Scottish queen announced by the show this morning was Ellie Diamond.
Described as the “diamond from Dundee”, 21-year-old Ellie is 6’4” tall out of heels.
“I’m a really big queen - literally - in a tiny little pond in Dundee,” she explained to interviewers.
“I would describe my drag as a cartoon character that came to life. I love taking inspiration from my favourite movies, favourite cartoons, anime.
“I do all my own hair, I do all my own costumes - putting it all together to the 6’8” cartoon character you see before you.”
Ellie faces stiff competition from the second Scot announced on the new series, Lawrence Chaney, from Glasgow.
23 years old, Chaney describes herself as a “plus size diva” and “Scottish drag royalty”.
“I’m kind of like Mary, Queen of Scots, except I hope one of these English drag queens doesn’t chop off my head.
“Every single stereotype you’re thinking of right now of what a Scottish person is...I am.
“I’m inspired by worldwide legends; Lady Gaga, Madonna, Yootha Joyce...Michelle McManus.”
The first episode of the new series, only the second one set in the UK, will be released on BBC iPlayer at 7pm, on January 14, 2020.
