Overlooking Calton Hill and Waverley station, the couple set about putting their stamp on the site with bright, warm interiors and sweet treats for passers-by in lockdown.

Since opening, Room & Rumours’ distinctive coffee cups – adorned with their standout moon and stars logo - have been spotted across Edinburgh and gained plenty of hype on social media.

Ali said that he and his wife, Aysel, had been blown away by the response from customers and fellow business owners.

"It’s been amazing, we’re so grateful for all the support we’ve been getting and the turnout and response has been incredible – especially in such a short space of time.

"With so many cafes scattered around the city, everyone has been in touch lately to give us their support and have all been so helpful. It’s such a close-knit community and people really want to help each other out right now.”

He hopes that the shop’s rotation of new roasts and range of homemade sweet treats – with a selection of offerings for vegan customers too – will keep fans coming back for more over the coming months.

“As of this month, we're going to have a different roaster on each month for espresso so that we can showcase all the different roasters in the UK and Europe too,” Ali added.

“It's just a case of letting people try coffee that you can't get elsewhere in Edinburgh.”
