Prince Philip: Tributes from celebrities including Piers Morgan, Carol Vorderman and Lord Sugar pour in after the Duke of Edinburgh dies aged 99

The Duke was 99-years-old and passed away peacefully at Windsor Castle on Friday morning.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.”

Following the news, a number of celebrities took to Twitter to share their condolences, including Piers Morgan who wrote: “RIP Prince Philip, 99.

“A truly great Briton who dedicated his life to selfless public duty & was an absolute rock of devoted support to Her Majesty, The Queen, as the longest-serving royal consort to any British sovereign.

“A very sad day for our country. Thank you, Sir.”

Lord Sugar retweeted the announcement from the Royal Family twitter page offering his condolences to Her Majesty and to all of the Royal Family.

Actor Jason Watkins, who played Prime Minister Harold Wilson in the popular Netflix show The Crown, tweeted: “I was so honoured to present some @DofE Awards in the last few years.

The Duke of Edinburgh has died and tributes are pouring in from celebrities including Rebekah Vardy, Piers Morgan and Lord Sugar.

"Very sad news that his Royal Highness has passed away. Rest in Peace."

Carol Vorderman also shared her condolences on the social media site, writing: “I went for a private lunch with The Queen at Buckingham Palace quite a few years ago.

“They were both in their 80s and Prince Philip and she were flirting with each other madly and laughing.

"Theirs was a love and a marriage of more than 73 years. Deepest condolences Ma'am”

Irish singer-songwriter Ronan Keating shared a tribute to the Duke on his Instagram page, he said: “A great honour to have met you Sir. You lived a full life a good life. My thoughts are with the people that are left behind.

“May you rest in peace.”

Rebekah Vardy retweeted the announcement with a simple “Rest in peace” message.

Comedian, Katy Brand, wrote: “I met Prince Philip once. I liked him.

"He had a proper twinkle in his eye. He had the air of a man who would know what to do in a bear attack.

"I can see why it worked, the two of them. I feel sad for the Queen. RIP.”

Paralympian Hannah Cockroft MBE, tweeted her own tribute to the Duke, she wrote: “I’ve had the privilege of meeting the Duke of Edinburgh a couple of times and have been involved with @DofE since I completed my bronze award at school.

"He cared deeply about the youth in our Country, keeping them active and supported.

"Rest in Peace #PrincePhilip.”

British astronaut, Tim Peake, said: “Saddened to hear this news. I had the privilege to meet HRH Prince Philip - a warm, charming man who enjoyed sharing stories of flying helicopters.

"Condolences to The Royal Family at this time."

Greg Jenner, author and public/celebrity historian shared a moving tribute offering his condolences to Her Majesty the Queen, he said: “I wasn’t sure how I’d feel upon the death of Prince Phillip, but it turns out my abiding feeling is sadness.

“A 73-year marriage is an extraordinary thing and I feel for Elizabeth, the person.”
