Piers Morgan rows with BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker after Matt Hancock interview

The Good Morning Britain host had a testy exchange with BBC presenter Dan Walker earlier today.

Piers Morgan has told a BBC presenter that he “blew it” when interviewing Matt Hancock this morning.

The Health Secretary appeared on BBC Breakfast today, answering questions about UK testing figures from the show’s Dan Walker.

When challenged on why the government was no longer publishing data on the number of people being tested for coronavirus, Mr Hancock said “it just doesn’t add anything”.

He insisted that the “meaningful” figure is “how many tests are being conducted, where they’re being conducted, and where the positive test results are.”

Walker hit back at criticism of the exchange on social media after some viewers argued that he failed to challenge the Health Secretary on the claim.

“It is essential that politicians are allowed to speak,” he told followers. “The idea (from some) that we, and others, don’t challenge ministers is completely untrue.

He insisted that it was “Important to ask questions”, “Important to press”, but also “Important to let you listen.”

In reply to the tweet, Piers Morgan told Walker: “Mate, you blew it. Calm down.”

Responding to the jibe, Walker wrote: “Good to see you’re watching BBC Breakfast today...again.

“Maybe, if you didn’t make every interview about you, you might get a few decent political guests.”

Good Morning Britain (GMB), BBC Breakfast’s rival show, has not been able to secure an interview with a government official in more than nine weeks.

Morgan, a presenter on GMB also criticised the interview live on air.

“What are you talking about, Health Secretary? What could be a more important bit of data than how many people are being tested?” he asked.

“Surely the amount of accurate information you get, the number of people being tested would actually be very helpful,” added fellow host Susanna Reid.

“For the health secretary to get away with that blather on the BBC is utterly shocking,” Morgan said.
