More than 10,000 Scots pupils off school last Friday for coronavirus-related reasons, according to government data

A total of 10,665 Scots pupils were absent from classes last Friday (August 21) for reasons related to Covid-19 – missing either all or part of the school day.

That's according to the Scottish Government, who on Tuesday published data on attendance and absence in local authority schools, including coronavirus-related absences.

The latest government data also shows the overall attendance rate at local authority primary, secondary and special schools was 91.8%.

More than 10,000 Scots pupils missed school on a single day for reasons related to Covid-19.

The absence rate for Covid-19 related reasons was 1.5%, and for non Covid-19 related reasons was 6.7%.

Drawn directly from information held on school systems, this information is classed as ‘management information’, as it has not been subjected to the rigorous quality assurance processes that would normally be undertaken when statistics are published as ‘official’ or ‘national statistics’.

As this information may subsequently be updated by schools, these figures are subject to revisions.
