Iconic French fashion designer Pierre Cardin dies aged 98

The iconic Italian-born French fashion designer Pierre Cardin passed away in a hospital near Paris.

Known for his avant-garde style and futuristic designs which contrasted with the female form, Cardin helped revolutionise the fashion world in the 1960s and 70s.

He was also a pioneer in the business world, patenting a range of products such as watches and sunglasses with his own name.

His family told the AFP news agency that he died in a hospital in Neuilly, near Paris.
