Ibiza-loving couple build themed bar in Scottish back garden

Mike Braid and Laura Harmes have built their own bar in their garden – the Glitterbox, named after an Ibiza club night – proving you can still relax in style during the lockdown.

And now they’ve entered a competition to see if he can grab the title of UK’s Best Home Bar – with the hope of winning a year’s free supply of beer.

Mike, who lives in Kirkcaldy, said: “We have fridges in so there are beers, cocktails, loads of spirits, and I’ve got a draught machine for Stella.

“I’ve been building it during lockdown. We’ve called it the Glitterbox, that was Laura’s idea.

“She sent it onto their page and was shared all over the world. Loads of folk were telling us we should enter the competition, we thought ‘why not?’

“It’s a year’s free supply of beer if you win.

“I started just before Christmas but once the weather turned we kind of left it, and when lockdown came we battered on with it and finished it a few weeks ago.”

And Mike got the perfect opportunity to test it out when the recent warm weather spell coincided with his 50th birthday.

But the celebration had to be carried out responsibly, even after the easing of lockdown rules.

“It went well,” he said, “we had to book people in slots – everyone was dying to see it. It was good to see some people again, even if it was socially distanced.

“Our phones have never stopped. Everybody’s asking where we got all the bits for it.”
