Glasgow kids dook for Scotland in record breaking attempt

In a record breaking attempt, 75 local Glasgow school kids successfully managed to dook for 600 apples in just five minutes - a first for Scotland.

The event used an incredible 150 buckets and approximately 700 litres of water.

Pupils from St Brigid’s Primary School, Orchardgrove Nursery and Cassiltoun Stables Nursery all took part in the event alongside members of the local community.

“Despite a chilly autumnal morning we were all in great spirits and the kids were all bobbing for apples as quick as they could,”

“Apple bobbing - or ‘dooking’ in Scotland - at Halloween is a favourite tradition for many and we’re really proud to have attempted to make a record for Scotland after successfully catching 600 apples in a matter of minutes – we couldn’t be happier!”

After drying themselves off, the pupiles returned to class with a bag of delicious British apples to use for their own apple bobbing at home this Halloween.

The tradition of apple bobbing is thoughtto date back to Roman times when the conquering army merged their celebrations with existing Celtic ones.
