After getting back to cutting her high- profile client’s hair, an Edinburgh-based hairdresser revealed that Peter Murrell was a ‘dab hand’ at cutting Nicola Sturgeon’s hair.

Setting the scissor’s about Ms Sturgeon’s hair this afternoon for the first time this year, professional hairdresser Julie McGuire commented that she was impressed by the FM’s husband’s handiwork, however, added that a well-trained hand was needed.

Speaking at Beehive Hair and Makeup Salon in Edinburgh where she freelances, Ms McGuire said: “He’s actually becoming a dab hand.

"She’s been doing his and he’s been doing hers.

"Nicola has been doing hers at the front with my tapering scissors.

"She’s such a great woman- she just gets on with things.”

However, McGuire added: "The first lockdown I gave Nicola my tapering scissors and a couple of zoom lessons with her husband Peter cutting her hair at the back.”

"She said to me, ‘Peter, how’s he done?’ and I was like, ‘It will take a few haircuts to rectify.’"
