Duchess fulfils RUC promise

The Duchess of Cornwall fulfilled a wedding day promise when she yesterday paid a visit to the memorial garden commemorating the sacrifice of the Royal Ulster Constabulary.

The event was one of a series of engagements carried out by the duchess and the Prince of Wales as their two-day trip to Northern Ireland drew to a close.

Jim McDonald, chairman of the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) George Cross Foundation, revealed how six years ago at the royal couple’s wedding, he persuaded her to give the “second promise” she made that day. He added: “We are delighted that the duchess has come today.”
