Bute Community Council report

The latest meeting of Bute Community Council was held in Bute Museum last week, chaired by the group’s convenor Marlene Hill.

A presentation was made to the meeting by Alisdair Johnston, representing Visit Bute, giving details and figures of visitors to Bute over the last year. Alasdair also advised the community council that Visit Bute could no longer commit to attend to the running of the Ambulance Shelter on the pier. Bute Community Council agreed to take over this duty for a period of four years (the length of tenure of each community council).

Ex-Argyll and Bute Councillor Isobel Strong and Argyll and Bute Councillor Jim McIntyre gave an update and response to the petition regarding what is deemed by the local populace as the dropping of the name Bute from various aspects of recent organisations funded by Argyll and Bute Council (see full story page 1). A letter was read out to the meeting from the chief executive officer, Clelland Sneddon, giving the reasoning behind these decisions. The meeting was not impressed and the petition will go ahead.

And, Argyll and Bute Councillor Jean Moffat was given a warm welcome on her return after her recent illness.

The next Bute Community Council meeting will be held in Bute Museum, 7 Stuart Street, on February 20 at 7pm, featuring a presentation by Cal Mac.
