He split with coach Amelie Mauresmo earlier this year and today made an announcement that he and Lendl would work together again during the grass court season, which begins at Queen’s this week and also takes in the Wimbledon Championships.

Murray said today: “I had two very successful years working with Ivan, he’s single minded and knows what it takes to win the big events.”

Lendl was Murray’s coach during a particularly successful time in Murray’s career, when he claimed two Grand Slams and an Olympic Gold, but time commitments meant they were forced to split.

Murray denied claims that he had fallen out with Mauresmo, after she was quoted as saying that Mauresmo had indicated that she felt she could not “take things further anymore” with Murray before adding: “Andy is complex. On court, he can be opposite of what he is in life. It can be confusing.”
