Actress Hurley to marry cricket star Warne

LIZ Hurley and Shane Warne are to marry after the former Australian cricket international proposed to the Estée Lauder model on a trip to St Andrews this weekend.

The former actress and mother-of-one showed off her new engagement ring and posed for photographers yesterday after accepting Warne’s proposal.

The couple, who have been dating for around ten months, have been staying at the Fife town’s Old Course Hotel for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Warne, 42, is said to have made the declaration in front of guests in the hotel’s fine dining Road Hole Restaurant.

One diner said that other guests stood up and applauded when Hurley accepted on Friday night.

“Shane proposed over dinner and it was fairly public, not a private affair,” the diner said.

“It was a VIP crowd in there. It was residents only, including Dunhill past players.

“He didn’t get down on one knee, but when it was announced the other guests in the restaurant stood up and applauded. Everyone there was absolutely delighted.”

Warne has been playing at the tournament in recent days, as has Hurley’s ex-boyfriend and close friend Hugh Grant.

Hurley and her son Damian, nine, were in London to launch the Estée Lauder Pink Ribbon Collection on Thursday, which will raise money for breast cancer awareness, before travelling to St Andrews later that day.

Warne and Hurley’s relationship has been the subject of much interest.

The cricketer, who at one stage weighed around 14 stone, has undergone a noticeable physical change, for which he credits Hurley.

He divorced his wife of ten years Simone, with whom he has three children, in 2006.

Warne, who has a home in Brighton, moved to England around four years ago and became captain of the county side Hampshire.

He led the team for three seasons after retiring from international cricket in 2007.

Hurley divorced Arun Nayar, the textiles heir, in June of this year.

The Old Course Hotel has 144 state rooms and suites, many of which have been furnished by the French designer Jacques Garcia.

The hotel, which states on its website that its rooms have “picture postcard views” of the course, is popular with celebrities visiting the home of golf.

Other celebrities who have been attending this year’s championship include actor Michael Douglas and former cricketer Sir Ian Botham.
