Given the military presence in Washington DC, it is difficult to see how they could succeed although nothing can be taken for granted and the city is on high alert with CNN reporting that “the nation’s capital has been turned into a fortress”.
Other state capitals – aware that they might be targeted – have also introduced their own measures to protect state buildings in the event of some form of attack.

Hide AdThere is concern that the threat posed by right-wing extremists will not just disappear and so extra precautions may be the order of the day for some time to come.
Online chatter within these groups and like-minded individuals indicates that the so-called fight will continue and that they will never give up.
Having swallowed Trump’s lies that the presidential election was stolen from him, they are now intent on doing what they think they can to destabilise the new administration in the White House.
Trump, as you would expect, has done little to diffuse the situation and continues to maintain that he was the victim of a left-wing conspiracy – despite his claims that the election was fraudulent being thrown out by the courts, many of them headed by judges that he appointed.
He will not be at the ceremony today – and he will not be missed!
