Northern meeting for Simple Minds fans at Inverness

SCOTTISH rock band Simple Minds are to stage a concert at a venue better known as the home of the Inverness Tattoo and for cricket and piping competitions.

The most successful Scots rock band of all time will play their only Scottish date this year on 16 July at the Northern Meeting Park in Inverness.

Tickets went on sale yesterday for the gig, which will also feature another big-name Scottish band, Big Country.

Kenny Cameron, of promoters CK Events, said: "The Northern Meeting Park is an ideal music venue in the heart of the Highland capital, allowing us to bring great artists to our 'Summer in the City' event."

"It will provide space for thousands of concert goers and offer the convenience of being right on the doorstep for many Inverness residents."

Mike Smith, manager of Inverness Business Improvement District, said with the Scottish Open Golf and the Highland Games taking place on the weekends either side of the concert, July was set to be a bumper month for the city.
