NHS rejects unit advice

NHS Lothian has gone against the advice of architects and landowners in using a "prefab" approach for a birthing unit.

The centre is being built by Portakabin and will be moved to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for August. Correspondence obtained under the Freedom of Information Act shows Consort, which owns the land at Little France, and Keppie, hired to design the facility, have both advised NHS bosses that a "traditional" construction method would be more appropriate.
