Local news: Student is all smiles with dental award

A FORMER dental student from Telford College has been named the British Orthodontic Society Student Technician of the year. Magdalena Nowak was presented with the award at the society's annual conference.

Ms Nowak studied dental technology at Telford for three years and completed her HND in last June.

She had to construct two removable dental orthodontic appliances and provide a brief explanation on the design.

Kane able for singing class

Singer Frank Kane will offer a Georgian singing workshop at 9 Bath Street, Portobello, on May 23. No singing experience is necessary.

Family recycling day is not a waste of time

There will be a family day out at Seafield Community Recycling Centre in Fillyside Road on May 23.

The event will give children the chance to find out how to grow their own food, take a closer look at the creatures that live in a compost heap, and discover what happens to recycling waste.

Cat is cream of the crop at media festival

A CAPITAL student has scooped an award at the 2011 Celtic Media Festival in Stornoway.

Cat Napier, 20, an HND Creative Industries: Television student, secured the best one-minute film award.

She said: "These award wins are fantastic for the students and the college."

The ceremony was attended by top radio and film professionals, including Hollywood actress Tilda Swinton.

Exhibit enjoys a renaissance

A NEW exhibition celebrating the Renaissance in northern Europe is set to be held in the Capital.

The Northern Renaissance: Drer to Holbein exhibition will take place in the Queen's Gallery, at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, from June 17, 2011 to January 15 next year.
